Child and Adolescent Counselling from Developmental Perspectives
As an elective course, I chose this course because it related directly to my past experiences as a teacher and the future that I hope to pursue in counselling. It was a very beneficial and informative course. Some of the ideas and principles, I have been able to relate to the students I am teaching.
Assessment Processes
Because of the nature of the topic of this course, it was very challenging. I struggled with some of the statistics related to doing assessments in counselling. I felt that I learned a great deal about using assessments in the counselling process as they can be one great tool for learning about clients.
Infusing Culture into Counselling
Learning about how culture relates to counselling was very interesting. I learned that one's cultural identity impacts everything they do. I have been able to connect this idea to interacting with people on a daily basis, with students, colleagues, and friends.
Future Courses
Due to a variety of events happening in my personal life, I decided to postpone completing one of my courses from the summer semester to the fall semester. In order to maintain balance in my life, I realized that I would not be able to give an appropriate amount of time and attention to the course as well as the other things happening. I look forward to continuing my course work in September and into the following two years. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the course material and I am eager to start putting it into practice!
